Glen Etive, West Highlands, Scotland.
An almost lifeless day; flat light, everything frozen, no birds, no people (too much snow to access this glen) and even the trees in the middle distance appear to be wilting from the remorseless cold, but this is exactly what appealed to me. I have been studing some of Herbert Ponting's extraordinary work recently, and love his black and white carbon prints of the Antarctic which have a cyan cast; I felt that this gives the viewer more of a feel for the coldness that must have been present, and I have tried to make a similar style of image here (but using more modern techniques).
